At SABP we really value our volunteers, without whom we quite simply wouldn't have a Project. We recruit volunteers all year round. For more information have a look at the link in the 'Be Involved' section of our website https://www.bfriend.org.uk/volunteer-befrienders, drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or simply give us a call for an informal chat on 01292 264000.
In addition to our initial training course, SABP offers workshops and information opportunities for our volunteers through out the year. Previous examples include:
Topic Delivered by
Challenging Behaviour South Ayrshire Council Community Safety Officer
Internet Safety Police Scotland
The Impact of Domestic Abuse Women's Aid
Young People and Mental Health Child and Adolescent Mental Heath Services
Children's Hearing System Children's Panel Members
Certified First Aid St. Andrew's First Aid
It's not all hard work - we like to have fun too! At least twice a year SABP organises a social get together as a way of saying 'thank you' to our volunteers. These events provide a great opportunity to meet other volunteers and share befriending experiences. Meet some of our volunteers from SABP's summer bowling session!
SABP maintains both the Quality in Befriending Excellence Award from Befriending Networks and the Volunteer Friendly Award, from the Volunteer Centre Dundee (and administered by our local Third Sector Interface, Voluntary Action South Ayrshire). Both awards evidence our commitment to valuing our volunteers. Some feedback from our volunteers:
"Befriending has helped me in a lot of ways I never thought it would!"
"All the staff are really friendly and you get so much support."
"Being a befriender made me realise I'd like to work with young people. I've know changed my career and find it really rewarding."
