Being a volunteer - by Lisa

The fabulous Lisa!

I have volunteered for the South Ayrshire Befriending Project for over 2 years now and I am onto my second match. Each match has been so different but the most rewarding thing that I have done. Building up a relationship with a young person who really needs your help is something very special. I always look forward to the outings with my young person and not only does it help them, but it has really helped me. Before I started volunteering, I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to go down but over the last couple of years, it has really pushed me into wanting to work with young people and I now have a full time job in the area. The staff in the office couldn’t be more friendly and welcoming and they really make you feel the importance of your role in the project. The time commitment is really easy to manage with a couple of hours every two weeks and you always come away feeling the benefit of what you have done for the young person. I feel so lucky to be involved in such an amazing project and to have met so many wonderful people. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
